Answer by Mary Liz
The ceremony is the part where the couple is promising themselves to each other. It is the important part, to most people. It is the actual ceremony of making the vow of "in sickness and in health, for better or for worse, till death do us part". the reception is the part afterwords where there is usually food served and people toast the couple and there is a dance floor, it is the celebration, the party. It celebrates the happiness of the friends or family members that have just gotten married.
