From the Author
If Carrie Bradshaw came to your church, what would you say to her? Carrie Bradshaw, for anyone who doesn't (yet) know, is one of the women who make up the Sex and the City quartet. 'Sexpert' Carrie is a sex columnist on a top American newspaper. She and her three friends are successful, wealthy, attractive single women embracing men, sex, singledom and friendship, often simultaneously. Appearing on the heels of Friends, Ally McBeal and Bridget Jones's Diary, the Sex and the City women represent the growing group of thirty-something economically successful single women who do not and will not fit into the old spinster stereotype - if anyone ever really did.

: Challenge to the Church?
which asks how well the church is treating its single women, I have often wondered how welcome Bridget Jones would be in our churches. I have concluded that Bridget Jones would fit in very well. I have been less sure, however, about Carrie Bradshaw. Bridget would fit in well for a number of reasons. For one thing, she would be amongst friends. At least a quarter of adult church attendees are single women. Single men, as even a cursory glance round the average church reveals, are conspicuously absent, making up a mere tenth of churchgoers.
